Late last month, I shot Alexis and Jake’s wedding at the beautiful Aurora restaurant in Brooklyn. And it poured ALL DAY LONG. I had lofty ideas about photographing the bride and groom in gorgeous winter light with the Manhattan skyline in the background, but none of that happened.
Did I get some really cute umbrella pictures? Yes. Did I get anything I had initially envisioned? No. Instead, I just had to give up my expectations for the reality of the situation.
The reality of the situation was I had my camera wrapped in a plastic bag just trying to keep the lens dry, and Alexis’ dress got dirty about two seconds after she walked down the aisle. But the further reality of the situation was that some awesome moments were happening regardless. Letting go of my expectation meant there was more room for these other amazing memories to be captured.
I couldn’t be more stoked to share these images because they are honest and real and most importantly, authentically Alexis and Jake. Which makes them way more meaningful than the skyline anyway. 🙂

This is awesome! It looks like they had an amazing day and didn’t let the rain get them down. The portraits are fun and playful and GORGEOUS and tell the story of their day and I love it. Beautiful, Emily!
I am so in love with her dress! And these photos are awesome- because you captured their day as it happened, and all of the little in-between moments that you’re so good at. I’m bummed that I missed this one!
